May 2019: Trans Lifeline

Besides celebrity Laverne Cox, are there humans who identify as trans that you know? Even if you don't know they are trans, there are hundreds of thousand of humans around the world who identify this way and face a ton of challenges in being accepted, protected, seen, and acknowledged. Trans humans, like all other humans, come in so many different forms and all should be welcomed. Diversity is a pillar of humanity, and we need to stop treating those who are different than us as second rate citizens.

While we're not about labels, we are all about humans having the right to be who they want to be.

Wanna know what it's like to be trans?

  • Imagine trying to get a new job, but getting outed every time a potential new employer calls for reference checks.
  • Imagine not even getting an employer to conduct reference checks because you've been discriminated agains on the spot.
  • Imagine not being able to access gender-sensitive healthcare.

Or worse, imagine being killed because of how you identify.

The HRC notes that - "At least 13 transgender women were murdered in 2014, and  2015 is on track to see even higher numbers. These women were stabbed, shot, strangled, burned; killed violently by intimate partners or strangers. According to the 2013 National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP) report on hate violence against lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and HIV-affected (LGBTQH) communities, 72 percent of the victims of LGBTQ or HIV-motivated hate violence homicides in 2013 were transgender women, and 67 percent were transgender women of color. Transgender people have few options for protecting ourselves from violence or seeking justice. The NTDS found that 22 percent of transgender people who had interacted with police experienced bias-based harassment from police, with transgender people of color reporting much higher rates. Six percent reported physical assault; 2 percent reported sexual assault by police; and 20 percent reported having been denied equal service by law enforcement. Nearly half of the transgender people surveyed in the study said that they were uncomfortable turning to police for help."

These are just a few of the challenges our trans have faced in the recent past, and the situation isn't getting much better over time. This is not okay. Not in any way. We've got to take action to make this right.

In May, we're doing everything humanly possible to bring awareness to those who identify as trans. 10% of all profits this month benefit a nonprofit called Trans Lifeline. They are an organization providing a peer support hotline for humans who identify as trans.

If you identify as Trans and are in need of support, The Trans Lifeline hotline numbers are:
