I’ve always struggled with expressing myself, but it became more difficult in High School and my college years. I was raised in a not so religious household but my family, well my extended family always made it a point to bring up religion especially around the holidays and they always made a point to bring up how they didn’t approve of homosexuality, which I always found difficult to understand because we lived in California which is one of the most LGBTQ+ friendly states. Well during the tail end of my senior year of high school going into college I decided that it was time for me to come out not only as queer identifying but also as gender fluid, well to say that didn’t go well was a understatement. I was pretty much shunned upon my family and was pretty much not welcomed to any future gatherings. My parents had both passed away while I was in high school so I was pretty much excommunicated from the rest of the family. I’m now 30 going on 31 in March and I haven’t spoken to any of my “family” for almost 13 years now. I want to let you all know that if you are struggling with acceptance, there are people out there that will love you for just the way you are. Be a good human not only to yourselves but to others and know that you are loved regardless of who you love.
