My Story

My Story

Hey Humans! This may be a little long so I apologize for that in advance. I want to share my story of being a first responder; I tried the whole university thing and absolutely hated it. I felt so lost and out of my element and had no clue what I wanted to do with my life.

I dropped out of university after only a semester and went back home, worked a few dead end jobs. I have a cousin that is a paramedic and after spend a summer with her I decided to try it. I struggled in school but excelled with the hands on aspect of things. I worked my butt off to graduate and get myself through practicum. I had a preceptor that has told me I wouldn’t amount to anything and broke me down until I felt worthless and like I should stop and find something else to do with my life.

But I had the fortune to work with a few excellent medics that took me under their wings and got me job opportunities that have opened so many doors. I have spent the last few moments of people’s lives with them, and I have also brought life into this world. I think that’s the thing that attracted me the most about this job is never know what your day is going to look like. It’s the adrenaline rush that keeps you going when you are running on little to no sleep. You see people at the absolute best and worst moments in their lives; but knowing that you saved a life or at least did everything you could to, sometimes weighs on your shoulders but at the end of the day you’ve worked your very hardest to make a positive impact on that persons life.
