You Could Be
It was 10:30 pm when I got the phone call, “We have a sibling group of 4 coming into custody, possible meth lab, we need you to come in.” I will never forget the look on their faces when I met them and how my heart ached to comfort them.
I chose this job because I knew it would place me directly in the path of those who need help. Drug addictions, homelessness, abuse, trauma…. I hear a lot of stories and not every story I hear is beautiful… and nothing is as simple as it may seem.
What I have learned is that I can’t always help people, but I can always have hope for them. I can try to understand those who make me uncomfortable, removing the labels and seeing the human.
What if every story that has a broken beginning could also have a beautiful ending? Because I believe that if you make the right (and sometimes incredibly hard) choices, you could be exactly the person you want to be. You can be forgiven. You can be found.
I don’t know you, but if you are reading this…. I believe in you. Don’t stop fighting for the person you could be.
