This month, we’ve teamed up with our friends over at Miry’s List to raise awareness about what it’s like to be a refugee in America and to offer ways humans can support newly-arrived families.

For December, we’ve been paired with Shams Family from Afghanistan. This family of 6 arrived in June 2020. They are a mom, dad, and 4 children ages 6-12 years old. Dad previously served the US military in Afghanistan as a cook. The parents are learning English. They miss everything about their country and they are happy that they are safe here and their children can receive their education in a safe situation. They are happy for their children's future. Their urgent needs are a bike for dad since he doesn't have a driver's license yet and a bike for their teenage boy as well. Their other urgent needs are a queen bed for parents and kitchen utensils, devices for kids, and a laptop for parents for home learning.
