What do the words "only human" mean to you?

The words Only Human have a deep and inspired meaning to me. These are more than just words, they remind me that no matter who we are in this life, we must live as a community. As one. The only thing that separates us is ourselves. When we grow and learn to work, live and love as a community, we can truly create a world worth living in.

What are you passionate about?

I love seeing other people thrive. Helping to elevate and encourage people drives me to be a better human and person. I am currently working towards my goals to be a Social Work Therapist where I want to be an affordable option and resource to many individuals in the LGBTQ+ community. Too many of use go without care because of the inequalities we still have in this world. I want to help educate and change it so we can all live and thrive in a beautiful world.

In the last five years, what new belief, behavior, or habit has most improved your life?

In the last few years, I began my transition as a transman. I lost much and was broken down by those I held the closest to me. Coming out, changed my world. At first I thought it was not worth living for, but as time grew on and I continued on my journey, I found something special. Myself. Amidst all the muck and depression, I found myself. I found that for the first time in forever I was able to look into a mirror and see myself staring back at me. Hearing my voice on a recording didn’t bother me anymore. I felt freer than I had ever felt. Because I learned to love myself, I also learned how to love others and how to support others as well. This took me down a path that led me to practicing Buddhism, mindfulness and meditation. This changed my whole world again. I have seen myself grow and change and my confidence and self surety reach new heights. I now want to do the same for others.

How do you keep yourself positively inspired during overwhelming times?

I always try to remember that “It is what it is and I can only control what I can control, everything else thing I learn from.” I stopped putting pressure on myself about things that I could not control. Instead, I pushed myself to do what I can and let everything else take care of itself. My meditation times helped with this immensely, as I learned to have better introspection.

What book (or books) have greatly influenced your life?

The book that has influenced me the most is The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching: Transforming Suffering into Peace, Joy, and Liberation by Thich Nhat Hahn. It taught me how to manage my own emotions and depression. It also taught me how to love myself and grow spiritually.

What’s your favorite quote?

My favorite quote coming up for this year in 2021 is, “If you chase anything in life, chase what it is that makes you excited about living.”
