I have been asked many times; Lumilda why are you so positive, why are you always so happy? My response is first well I’m alive; then I would go deeper and tell them about the tribe that raised me, starting with my grandmother who was 1 of 13 children and her herself had 12 children. While raising her own 12 kids and her grandchildren, she also babysat many kids in our neighborhood. She cooked for all of us and regardless of how many kids were in her house or adults she always had enough for everyone and anyone else who may stop by. She loved every person that step foot into her house and everyone felt her loving caring nature. My mother and 5 of my aunts and one of my cousins all went through cancer and throughout the whole thing they remained positive, loving and still cared for others and also helped others going through cancer.

These women who have helped pave the way for me has taught me that regardless of what you are going through in life there is always someone else going through something worse and if you don’t reach out and help someone else then what is your purpose in life? I love helping others and I love knowing that I was one of the reasons someone else is smiling.

I make sure every single day I put a smile on someone’s face, I make sure I make someone laugh and I make sure I spread love. I want to one day be remembered as a fun loving caring person a Human who made everyone around her feel welcomed loved and accepted regardless of their color, race, gender, sexual orientation and religion. I am currently working towards my degree is sociology so I can be a counselor for our youth and hopefully teach them to spread love and make a difference in this world for themselves and our future leaders.
