Resilience
Hi everyone! My name is Jordyn, I’m 27 years old, and I grew up in the West Valley of Phoenix. I’ve been through a lot in my life, but one of the most pivotal moments was when my brother passed away unexpectedly from an accidental overdose. Before this happened, I was really struggling to find my place in the college world while attending ASU. After my brother died, I took a semester off from school to move back in with my parents and re-evaluate my life. I ended up switching my major to social work and graduated in 2016 with my Bachelor of Social Work. This was the first time I really felt that I belonged. I have always been an empath and really connected to the emotions of others, but I have also struggled myself with depression and anxiety for many years. I worked in the field for about a year before going back to school to get my Master of Social Work. I still can’t believe that I went to graduate school and succeeded. Looking back at all I have accomplished, I have also changed in so many fundamental ways. These moments in life that kind of become a catalyst for change can really alter your outlook on life, your relationship with others, how you react to things, etc. You never know what someone is going through and I have learned that extensively as a social worker and from what I’ve been through in life. Despite how someone presents themselves, there is always a story and we are all just human beings trying to navigate life the best we can. I try to greet everyone with positivity, warmth, and genuineness. And that is why I am so excited to be a part of this family at Only Human. <3
