- Tell us a little bit about you and your family. My husband Matt + I are raising our 2 girls (from Matt’s first marriage), and are excitedly expecting our first child together — ANOTHER GIRL! We also have a family dog, a yellow lab named Sam.
- What do you do for a living? I own my own business as a digital marketing + social media expert / consultant.
- What was it like for you when you came out? Mixed. I was raised in a very conservative, religious background so a lot of folks I grew up with actively rejected it. Fortunately, my family has been exceptionally supportive + loving, and I have found a community of folks who are equally supportive + who love me for who I am, regardless of my sexuality.
- Why are pride and representation important? I grew up with absolutely zero representation — so, it’s important because it makes you feel less alone. I wish I would have had some sort of example to look at, so I had felt less like an outcast in my own body + feelings.
- Do you have a chosen family? If so, where did you find them? Of course! I found them in Madison where we live — and I truly just lucked out with the people who showed up. It’s work, having friends around you + letting them into your life. But it’s worth it when you find good ones.
- What was it like forming your own family? Hard. Nothing about having a family in a same-sex relationship is easy. But it’s worth it, because you want it that much more + fight that much harder for it.
- What’s it like being a girl Dad? It’s the best, but it’s also all I know! They are the most excitable + the most loving, but I don’t think that has anything to do with them being girls. They’re just kids, and kids are so full of life + so full of love.
