As the initial uncertainty of quarantine extended throughout passing weeks, there were thousands of Neurodiverse people left without care.
After Behavior Health authorizations for practicing care were initially halted and awry with the uncharted territory of a Global Pandemic- My goal was to counter the downfall of my client school and in-home therapy support termination. I spent the Spring and Summer building an equine facilitated psychotherapy program for one of my clients.
{Current research shows equines have the profound ability to perceive minute changes in our biochemistry which makes them great for therapy with their ability to sync and mirror our emotions.}
Personally, my favorite explanation to encompass a psychotherapy session is how my client’s Mom explains it- “When she’s with them, I’ve never seen her at such ease.”

Training these equines for as therapy support animals over the years has been a continuous honor and privilege that I’ve truly cherished, now more than ever. Together we’re navigating through psychotherapy assisted activities and techniques to help humans of all diversities.

I have found being that present during sessions, tracking improvements, and looking back on documented footage- define the moments which make our work as educators and teachers worth every ounce of our investment in the next generation.

I’m sharing this story to say…even though the present and future are scary, let’s stay encouraged in looking beyond the fear to create, dream and insisting on tapping into the beauty all around. I promise that peace and joy are still held in the spaces we occupy.
